MICHAEL P. G
IERTZ
has been with the law firm of Hartley O'Brien Parsons Thompson & Hill since 1998, primarily practicing in the areas of workers' compensation, FELA, and products liability. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, and is a member of the West Virginia State Bar Association, the Ohio County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
Born in Aurora, Illinois, Mr. Giertz graduated from West Virginia University with a B.A. in 1989, and a M.A. in English in 1994.
From 1994 to 1995, Mr. Giertz was a high school teacher in the Chicagoland area.
In 1995, Mr. Giertz returned to West Virginia to attend law school at the West Virginia University College of Law, and earned his degree of Juris Doctor in 1998.
While attending law school, Mr. Giertz undertook the concurrent study of Safety and Environmental Management through the West
Virginia University College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. Through this program of study, Mr. Giertz honed his knowledge in the area of state and federal safety regulations. He also developed and
conducted several safety audit programs for WVU and other surrounding businesses in the Morgantown area.
In addition, Mr. Giertz developed a faculty teaching program to introduce students in the Safety and Environmental Management program to
the fundamentals of the workers' compensation system. He graduated with a M.S. degree in Safety and Environmental Management in 1998
