Press RELEASE

Weir High School Wins Booze and Cruise Assembly

Weir High School is this year's first school to win a Booze and Cruise, You'll Lose assembly. The Booze and Cruise, You'll Lose program is sponsored by the law offices of Gold, Khourey & Turak, L.C., WTOV TV 9 and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The program's purpose is to help end underage drinking and driving. Students who attend Booze and Cruise, You'll Lose assemblies will have the opportunity to meet a player from the Pittsburgh Pirates and receive Pirate memorabilia, while learning about the criminal, legal and financial consequences of drinking and driving.

Weir High School won the right to have an assembly by being the first school to administer at least 250 Booze Buster Quizzes. The quiz prepares the students for the assembly by testing their knowledge of DUI laws.

"Weir High School is to be commended for its commitment and efforts to end underage drinking and driving", complemented the program's coordinator and Gold, Khourey and Turak attorney C. Richard Wilson.  Weir became the first high school to receive a program by administering over 250 Booze Buster Quizzes within three days of receiving a copy of the quiz. Mrs. Znoy, the faculty advisor of Weir's S.A.D.D. club, led Weir's efforts.

Twenty-two year old outfielder Trey Beamon will mix it up with the students of Weir High school at their twelve o'clock assembly on Thursday, November 14. Four other Ohio Valley schools have also won assemblies this fall. Attorney Wilson added, "We award assemblies to the schools which are most committed to ending underage drinking."  Bishop Donahue, Barnesville, Cameron and Steubenville high schools also won assemblies.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced the players who will rally the students at each assembly. A number of rising stars and big name players are on deck for the program.

Tony Womack, a twenty seven year old infielder from Danville, VA, led the students of Bishop Donahue High School at their assembly on Thursday, October 7th. Womack's words were straight from the heart. Tony Womack's talk was honest and unassuming. Womack's words and work ethic stand out in an era where professional athletes' often times seem to care more about pay checks and popularity than education and fans. Womack has a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters Degree.
